New Gadgets Coming in 2016!

The New Year is coming and with it comes a new year of gadgets to put on your wish list. In the mix are devices for gaming, improving quality of life, making you a better at sports, and letting you interact with the world in new ways. Of course, there will also be a new iPhone and the other expected Apple upgrades to keep your eye on. In the latest Mac laptop line, we saw the use of USB Type-C port for all of the laptop’s peripheral needs. Expect to see more laptops and gadgets incorporate this port, since where Apple leads the rest of the tech world follows. In addition to the usual suspects, we’ve got some other tech trends to watch out for.

Quell2Virtual reality has been a dream of technical capabilities for a long time, and in 2016 we are going to get a huge advancement in the field. The long anticipated Oculus Rift is slated to launch in 2016, and other companies, like Sony and HTC following close behind. Samsung Gear and Google Cardboard have had virtual reality headsets on the market this past year, but they’ve been either too proprietary (Gear) or too under advertised (Cardboard) to really gain popularity. Oculus Rift, backed by Facebook, will not have those problems, and is an actual, separate headset, rather than a device that holds your cell phone.

Technology has been providing great improvements in the medical field for centuries, and now more than ever, with robots and lasers involved in surgeries, and this next year is no different. One of the most exciting is the development of the gadget Quell. Quell is a band that will give patients drug-free pain relief using intensive nerve stimulation. It’s meant for patients with chronic pain caused by conditions like Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis, and Sciatica. The band stimulates sensory nerves to cause the body to block pain signals. It does this hourly, including while patients are sleeping. It also connects to your smartphone to let you monitor other functions, like sleep quality.Skulpt1

Wearables have long been about tracking steps and monitoring heart rate, but in 2016, they’re going to take it up a notch. First is the Adidas SmartRun, which features coaching while you’re on a run and running plans created by running coaches. It also monitors heart rate and tracks your run with a built-in GPS. Outside of wearables, the Smart Ball is a soccer ball that will give you data on speed, spin, trajectory, and strike point. It can connect to both iPhones and Android phones. Into body building? Skulpt will monitor your muscle condition using electrical impendance myography (EIM they call it), measuring the depth and direction of electrical currents to detect muscle condition and body fat percentage.
